Since
my interest in architecture began, I have done research about Bachelor of
Architecture and international universities that offer the program. I started
my search around London as it is well known for its architectural history.
After
I visited the University of Manchester portal, I realized that MSA will be a
very good choice for me. Other than
being the top school in London, the facilities provided by MSA are to my
liking. I found out that the lectures are given by architects from Manchester Society of Architect who are
experienced in the profession. As “experience is the teacher of all things”
(Julius Caesar), the priceless knowledge they share will definitely lead me to
my dream. Additional guidance in series of workshops at MSA will also help me
whose passion has always been with practical work. In addition, the wide-ranged
resources and various facilities available at the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan
University are a blessing as
I have free access to them if I study at MSA.
My recent visit was to a school’s gallery that was
adopted from my own design. It was planned last year but the project just
started three months ago. At first, a spacious room was the subject so I
designed a glass wall. However, drastic decisions were given by the
administration which the space has decreased to a smaller room. Therefore, I
focused more on the furniture used to display the information. I found out the
use of red, yellow and black as a colour scheme was effective to evoke the mood
for the visitors while the well-designed furniture played a very crucial role
in saving the space and allow the tight room to be more spacious.
I admire Horace Jones, a well-known architect and
surveyor in London in late the 18th century. His hard work and
continuous accomplishments such as Cardiff Town
Hall, City Lunatic Asylum, and markets in Smithfield
encouraged me to choose architecture as my future profession. His
collaboration with a civil engineer, John Wolfe
Barry had created a very famous building, Tower Bridge. It was known as
the fastest bridge that can lift its bascules which it only needs few minutes. Even
The
Victorian Gothic style implied on the building was not fond by the people,
it eventually made the bridge a distinctive landmark. It was listed
as one of the top buildings in United Kingdom because of its uniqueness and
extraordinary capability.
In conclusion, MSA is the best choice to pursue my study
at. My exhilaration in drawing and designing makes me eager to experience an
architect’s life specifically in creating building for humans’ need and
happiness. I really hope that I get the chance to further my study there. My Artwork
